Join David Knight on a virtual pub crawl exploring the history of the London Public House. David will lead a desktop tour of the city’s public houses, exploring exemplars of their type and of their time to piece together an informed but informal architectural and social history, including some reflections on the pub’s ongoing social value. The virtual format provides an opportunity to weave together diverse types of public house from the rural inn and the suburban estate pub to the taverns of the inner city and indeed ‘lost’ and imagined examples.

Dr David Knight is co-founder with Cristina Monteiro of the London-based practice DK-CM, a tutor at the Royal College of Art, and has led tours of the city for the Architectural Association and the Institute of Contemporary Art amongst others. David’s teaching work has frequently returned to the pub as a way of exploring issues of authorship and community ownership in architecture.
