If you are looking for the most historic part of London, then Rainham would have a good claim, as there has been human habitation there since Neolithic times. This circular walk starts at Rainham village, where in the 18th century sea captain John Harle built himself beautiful house, next to the Norman church.
Guide, Rob Smith will lead this tour exploring the village before walking through Rainham Marshes to the Thames, where a strip of industry has existed since the early twentieth century. After seeing some survivors of D-Day we’ll return through the wild flowers of the marsh, across land that’s served London as grazing land, rifle ranges and a Victorian rubbish heap.
