During the last year of lockdowns, London’s local neighbourhoods have created some of the 'good news' stories about communities coming together, resilient local high streets, and playful occupation of public spaces.

How can we embrace the hyper-locality enforced by Covid to imagine how London's neighbourhoods could develop in the future?

“An estimated 40% of jobs can be done from home, reshaping the daily pattern of the city. There is an opportunity here to use the built environment to stitch together new networks of work, care and leisure centred on the neighbourhood.”
Embrace the Local, Mayor of London’s Recovery Roundtables Report.

In this panel discussion, hosted by Archio, we will explore examples of communities becoming more connected and resilient through the pandemic, and query whether newer neighbourhoods with less established networks have experienced the same 'coming together’.

We will imagine possible futures, such as hyper-local neighbourhood centres, active community hubs, suburban co-working spaces, micro parks for home workers and local food networks. We'll welcome radical thoughts from the audience too!

Speakers will include Vlad Bodogan, of Architecture 00 who will introduce their study of Flexible Workspaces on Our High Streets; Cristina Monteiro, Director of DK-CM, on themes of activeness and connectedness as outlined in their 'Expanding London’s Public Realm' Report; and William Chamberlain, Founding Director of Creative Wick, who will introduce their Living Lab research.
