Dylan John Jones OBE  is one of the UK’s best-known journalists and authors. Prior to taking up the role of editor-in-chief at the Evening Standard in 2023, he was the editor of GQ from 1999 to 2021.

The New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author has written or edited 28 books. In the eighties, he was one of the first editors of i-D, before becoming a contributing editor of The Face and editor of Arena.

He spent the next decade working in newspapers – principally The Observer and The Sunday Times – before embarking on a multi-award-winning tenure at GQ. During his editorship, Conde Nast’s flagship men’s title won more awards than any other magazine – more than 80.

A former columnist for The Guardian, The Mail on Sunday and The Independent, he is a trustee of the Hay Festival, and, along with ex-Disney executive Maggie Todd, a partner in BEACON FILMS. In 2012 he was awarded an OBE for services to publishing.

Jones attended Chelsea School of Art and then Saint Martin's School of Art in London where he studied graphic design, film and photography. His journalistic career began in 1983 at Arena magazine and in the last 40 years there are few areas of culture, music, fashion, literature and politics that he has not covered.

In conversation with London Society chair, Leanne Tritton, he will discuss his love of London and the role of the media in shaping London - both physically and reputationally.
